Sheep Dragon

Once upon a time, there was a dragon that lost its mind. It thought that it was a sheep. Every time it saw a wolf, it would scream and run away. It would try and join flocks of sheep for protection. And it always ate grass.

The sheep did not like the dragon, so they would always run away from it. Until, one day, the dragon said, “Baaaaaaaaa”, and put on a big, fluffy sweater so that it looked like a sheep. Although they were definitely confused, the dragon did look like big sheep, so they stopped running away.

The dragon had to stretch the sweater a lot to fit in it, though. Before long, the sweater ripped. When sheep saw that it was actually a dragon, some of them tried to throw it out of the flock. Some other sheep realized that the dragon was being very nice to them and was not trying to eat them, so they wanted the dragon to stay.

At that moment, a hunter entered the field holding a rifle looking to hunt some sheep. Seeing him, the dragon ran forward and blew fire at the hunter. The hunter shot back, injuring the dragon. The dragon tried to fly away, but his wing was damaged. So instead, he charged the hunter and blew more fire. Terrified, the hunter ran back into the forrest next to the field.

A few days later, the hunter came back with his son. The dragon was so mad about the hunter’s return that he threw a fireball at them. The hunter pushed his son out of the way, but was hit by the fireball and perished.

The hunter’s son was angry that his father died, and decided to kill the dragon as revenge. He set a trap for the sheep, and caught some of them. The dragon decided to go rescue them, because he thought of them as brothers. So he destroyed the house where the son was holding the sheep, picked up the sheep, and flew back to the field.

The hunter’s son used that as an opportunity to shoot the dragon. As the dragon escaped, it hit the man with his claw, and the man was hurt so badly he decided to run far away and never come back. Then, the dragon flew back to the field, and put the stolen sheep back where they belonged.

The dragon was hurt very badly by the hunter’s son, however. As the days passed, the dragon fell sick, and it became clear that it would not survive. Seeing how much the dragon had done for them, the sheep all agreed he was one of them, even if he was a dragon. If the dragon had not saved them, the hunter might have eaten them all. Smiling, the dragon passed away happily, finally being part of the herd.

If you ever visit that field, the sheep still live there today. They put up a rock where the dragon died, to remember the dragon. And if you look carefully on misty days, you’ll see the sheep dancing around and playing with something swirling in the mist. Some say it is the dragon’s spirit.
