Deep in the jungle there was a very stinky flower. It was so stinky that none of the other flowers wanted to go near it. So, the flower was very sad. However, there was one type of animal which loved the flower: insects. The flower became friends with one of the insects. When the flower told the insect that it was lonely and wanted more friends, the insect decided to help.
First, he gathered up more insects. Then, he introduced them to the flower. Now the flower had lots of friends. They would buzz, sing, and smell bad all day long. The insects would pollinate the stinky flower, and soon, there were more stinky flowers. It became so stinky that all the other flowers ran away to another jungle.
The stinky flower was so popular with the insects that it spread not just in the jungle, but everywhere. Soon, stinky flowers were the main flower in the world. A few hundred million years later, some monkeys evolved into humans. They grew up surrounded by the stinky flowers. So, they thought the stinky flowers smelled good. So did all the other animals which grew up surrounded by stinky flowers. So, all the flowers that you think of as smelling good today used to be thought of as very stinky. And now, only a few of the good smelling flowers is left, like the Titan Arum. And we think of them as the stinkiest flowers in the world.
